About the Festival

The Festival

The festival wants to set a clear and visible sign: for an open and solidary Neukölln, against discrimination and right-wing violence, for solidarity with the victims of right-wing attacks as well as for a diverse society, open to all people who live here. We want to ensure that Neukölln will remain a place where we all like to live and feel at home!

Background

In Neukölln, in Germany and throughout Europe – everywhere, right-wingers are trying to dictate public discourse. With murderous consequences: Persons are getting shot, Europe’s border regime is being violently defended against refugees. Instead of firmly distancing themselves from the Right, middle-class parties are cooperating with the AfD.

This climate is also palpable in Neukölln: The last few years have been marked by a whole series of right-wing violence. Despite many hints regarding the perpetrators, authorities fail to provide a convincing account.

We refuse to put up with this, neither in Neukölln nor anywhere else! With a festival under the motto „Open Neukölln“ we want to show: We stand together against hate and for diversity and solidarity!

The numerous events of the ONK Festival show how diverse, liveable and militant Neukölln is – together with you! We will not be intimidated, we will not leave the streets or the internet to the Right and we stand up for an open Neukölln as a place of solidarity. Because a good community needs engagement, encounter and exchange.

The organisers

Since 2017, the festival has been organised entirely on a voluntary basis by Bündnis Neukölln, a broad union of organisations, initiatives, trade unions, political parties, religious communities and many individuals in Neukölln.

We reject all forms of discrimination and exclusion. There is no place for racism, sexism, anti-Semitism, homophobia and nationalism in our midst. With protests and awareness campaigns, public forms of action and educational events, we work to ensure that Nazis and racists stand no chance in our district!

Bündnis Neukölln views itself as an open platform for information and action. We meet once a month and are looking forward to more fellow comrades.
