Songs of Migrating Birds is an event that focuses on folklore music and polyphonic singing traditions from the Balkans, Georgia, Greece and the mediterranen regions.
In recent years there has been an increasing interest among many young international artists and musicians living in Berlin to dedicate their efforts in research of traditional music and different ethnic singing techniques, as well as integrating some pieces of their cultural heritage in their personal repertoire.
With this practice new formations are constantly arising in the local live music landscape, which helps maintaining a sense of continuity and a link to popular music styles of past generations. Moreover, these groups are functioning as cultural bridges, as often the musical pieces originate from neighboring communities in conflict regions.
